THE HEART OF PANAMA

Panama City
Among the areas of Panama, the region connecting Panama City and the Central Region is undoubtedly where you take your first steps when you reach the country. Known for its two airports, Panama City welcomes many international and national flights every day. The world known Panama Canal connects Panama’s cosmopolitan and historical capital Panama City a center of culture and gastronomy facing the Pacific Ocean and the Pearls archipelago, to the Caribbean province of Colon. The first lands discovered by the conquistadors are still exceptional colonial ruins today. Life is good in the small countryside of Cocle, in the heart of a volcano, in the charming village of El Valle de Anton.
Also, Playa Cacique is just a two-hour ferry ride from Panama City and a 30-minute flight from Albrook Airport. It is located on the island of Contadora, which belongs to the Pearls Islands archipelago. On that vast wild beach, you can spend a relaxing time. Turquoise water, rocks sculpted by the ocean and a pelican dance are in complete harmony.
On the other side, Panama faces the Pacific Ocean. Punta Chame is one of Panama’s most popular kitesurfing spots. Further along is Playa Gorgona, Playa Coronado, Playa Blanca and a series of breathtaking beaches. This place is developing in an impressive way, but we can still count there part of the community hosts for those who are looking for authenticity!
Panama, diverse country
We cannot end this small overview of the heart of Panama without mentioning Lake Bayano. It is at less than two hours from Panama City. Bayano Lake is a reservoir built in 1976. It is way better to go there on your own to avoid unpleasant transfers sold in the street. On the shores of the lake lives the Bayaneros community, a diverse group of people who work together as a community while respecting nature and traditions. This out-of-time traditional place is perfect to discover a new culture through the exploration and participation to the activities that give rythm to the lives of the inhabitants of the protected area : agritourism, artisanal fishing, banana and corn plantations, cow milking, traditional food preparation, Panamanian rum tasting…
